North Tulsa baby shower marks decade of support to new parents
The event started as a way to prevent infant deaths from unsafe sleeping practices. Now parents take newborn portraits, ask pediatricians questions and find fatherhood resources. The Tulsa Health Department's 10th annual North Tulsa Community Baby Shower attracted hundreds of expectant parents and caregivers. The event, which focuses on safe sleeping for new parents, expanded to include topics such as car seat safety and prenatal healthcare access. Kathy Kleine Crabtree, THD’s maternal child health outreach manager, said the event also emphasized the importance of fathers in childcare. The fatherhood program manager at the Parent Child Center of Tulsa, Sekou Clincy, emphasized the role of fathers and emphasized their importance in children's lives. The goal of the event is to address the state's maternal and infant health disparities, following a report by the March of Dimes that found Oklahoma was ranked 46th in the nation for infant mortality.
