Police Departments show support for autism awareness month

April is National Autism Awareness Acceptance Month and police departments across northeast Oklahoma are showing their support.

The Catoosa Police Department wrapped one of its patrol cars to represent autism awareness.

The Mayor of Catoosa also signed a proclamation declaring April as Autism Awareness & Acceptance Month to help increase the understanding of Oklahomans with autism spectrum disorder.

Catoosa Police aren't the only law enforcement department that's raising awareness.

The Jenks Police Department said autism awareness is a topic that's near and dear to the department.

"We strive every day to spread awareness of Autistic communication and support," the department posted on Facebook.

Jenks Police will wear custom autism awareness badges on their uniforms to show their support.

The department also highlighted its autism awareness patrol car.
