TULSA, Okla. — A man charged with a 2018 murder has been arrested.

James Gainer was arrested Wednesday afternoon and was booked into Tulsa County Jail on a first degree murder charge.

According to TPD, Gainer allegedly beat a man to death at an apartment complex near 51st and Lewis on Sep. 1, 2018.

Police said Gainer beat a man to death an apartment complex near 51st and Lewis in 2018. Multiple witnesses said Gainer beat a young man with a metal rod and stomped on his head.

Gainer was initially charged with first degree murder, but the charges were dropped in 2021 as he was deemed incompetent. He was admitted to a state mental health facility.

Per Oklahoma law, someone who is deemed incompetent is given two years to regain competency.

Now that the two years are up, Gainer was charged again.

Gainer was arrested by the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office and is being held without bond.
