Tulsa rape suspect arrested at Pensacola airport

A Kansas man accused of rape in Oklahoma is in Escambia County jail after allegedly attempting to flee the country, according to the Tulsa Police Department. Samuel Dylan Shields, 32, of Hutchinson, Kansas, is being held without bond as an out-of-state fugitive for allegedly attempting to flee the country. He was located and arrested at the Pensacola International Airport. A pregnant woman reported being raped and sexually assaulted by Shields on Jan. 15. Police have charged him with first-degree rape and were notified that he had quit his job and planned to flee. The Transportation Security Administration questioned Shields and he was taken into custody and booked into jail. Police said Shields will return to Tulsa to face his charges.

PENSACOLA, Fla. (WKRG) — A Kansas man accused of rape in Oklahoma is in Escambia County jail after allegedly attempting to flee the country, according to the Tulsa Police Department.

Samuel Dylan Shields, 32, of Hutchinson, Kansas, is being held without bond as an out-of-state fugitive. He was located and arrested Saturday at the Pensacola International Airport.

Tulsa police said a pregnant woman reported on Jan. 15 she was raped and sexually assaulted by her roommate, Samuel Shields.

Police said Shields did not cooperate with the investigation or meet with detectives. He was charged with first-degree rape on Friday, March 15.

Tulsa police reportedly were notified that Shields had quit his job and planned to flee the country.

Shields reportedly was located at the Pensacola International Airport on Saturday, March 16, with a boarding pass to San Juan, Puerto Rico.

The Transportation Security Administration reportedly questioned Shields, and he was then taken into custody and booked into jail.

Tulsa police credited the Pensacola Police Department for assisting in the arrest of Shields.

They said Shields would be brought back to Tulsa to face his charges.
