Tulsa city officials are urging residents to recycle their non recyclable items after Christmas, which often leads to increased contamination rates and slow recycling operations. Live Christmas trees can be placed at the curb on regular pickup days through January. However, they must be removed from all lights, ornaments and garland. Artificial trees cannot be recycled and should be broken down as much as possible. Cardboard and plain paper can be used in the blue bin, but foil or shiny wrapping paper, bows, ribbons, bubble wrap, plastic bags and foam should not be placed in the recycling bin. The city's recycling contamination rate is currently in the high 30 percent range.
