This week really starts the countdown to Thursday, June 20, when the best in high school sports will be celebrated at the Tulsa World’s eighth annual All-World Awards.

For the fifth year in a row, the All-World Awards are sponsored by Bill Knight Automotive.
Tickets for the All-World Awards banquet are $75 and are available at allworldawards.com . Seating is limited.
From Tuesday through June 19, the Tulsa World is honoring athletes from the spring sports — golf, track, soccer, baseball and tennis. Boys golf finalists and honors will be featured Tuesday, followed by girls golf on Wednesday. Track honors follow on Thursday and Friday, with soccer on Saturday and June 16, then baseball on June 17, capped by tennis on June 18-19.
During the banquet, selections for the athlete of the year in 20 varsity high school sports will be announced. There also will be winners announced for other awards that honor the top overall athletes of the year, coaches, comeback, inspirational and scholar athletes. There also will be a lifetime achievement award winner.
The All-World Awards will also name the best mascot, band, cheer squad, dance team and fan base in a contest that was sponsored by Tulsa Tech. Winners received the most votes during the contest.
Instead of a keynote speaker this year, there will be a panel consisting of four of the area’s top student-athletes discussing several topics, including their journeys to success and the challenges of being a student-athlete. Scheduled panelists, in alphabetical order, are Owasso’s Jayelle Austin, Jenks’ Jett Calmus, Union’s Kali Hayden and Bixby’s Sam McCormick. College and high school sports editor Barry Lewis and assistant sports editor Juwan Lee will be the panel moderators.
Check-in time for the banquet will be from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. and the awards ceremony will begin at 7 p.m.
