Flock cameras again part of the latest Tulsa "Community Conversation"

Monday marked the first of four upcoming community meetings hosted by Tulsa's mayor, police chief and other city leaders. Katherine Silas, a woman who has received six citations in six months for failing to update her car insurance, expressed concerns about the use of Flock license plate reader cameras in Tulsa. She expressed these concerns during a "Community Conversation" at Tulsa Tech. Police Chief Jonathan Brooks responded to Silas' concerns, stating that Tulsa PD does not use the cameras to issue citations and that her complaint must have originated from another jurisdiction. He also addressed Silas's concerns about how the data the cameras collect is being used, stating the department has already changed its policy regarding sharing data with other agencies and using the cameras as a public safety tool. Nichols, who aims to become the safest big city in America, acknowledged that capitalizing on opportunities to improve public trust remains a challenge.
